Land surveyors touch nearly every facet of our lives from our home to the stores where we shop and the stadium where we watch our favorite sports team. Despite the importance of their work, job security and wage level, the industry faces a workforce development problem. The average land surveyor is roughly 57 years old and not nearly enough new surveyors are entering the profession. I interviewed 10 members of the Board of Directors from my client, the Indiana Society of Professional Land Surveyors, to hear in their own words why they chose the industry and continue dedicating themselves to the work.
The result was a 6 minute video I posted on YouTube and Vimeo, and made available to members speaking at local schools in classes and at career fairs in an effort to get the next generation interested in surveying.
I also created a series of ~30 second videos to publish on social media.
Because of technology restrictions, we hired a third party firm to light and film the interviews. I conducted the interviews and edited all the videos. I also tracked down b-roll and photos we could get at no further cost to the client as they are a non-profit with limited resources.
